I decided that I needed to change my research topic. I was no longer passionate about my previous ones. I decided to pursue my interest in flying. I grew up with my dad always telling me he wished that one day he could get a private pilot's certificate. A lot of kids end up wanting to do what their parents do, so I too decided flying an airplane would be something that I would love to learn how to do. I am not quite sure how this will tie into doing something meaningful for others but I am sure my research will take me there.
I researched the requirements for a pilot's certificate. I learned that it is more common than I previously thought; a lot of people have private pilot certificates. This got me super excited about the possibility of flying to Catalina island, or visiting my family friends in Big Bear, CA. I can imagine it now... Me, my wife, a thousand feet in the air, on our way to Catalina island for an evening dinner. I get goose bumps thinking about it. My research led me to Palomar Flight schools offered locally, one was Pinnacle Aviation Academy. This academy has been in business since 1997, training and educating enthusiasts like myself to become pilots. Mr. Warnock: Teacher, Coach, Student, Pilot. That has a nice ring to it. Should it go on my business card? Maybe not. That being said, I did learn that earning a certificate is not going to be cheap. It costs anywhere from $6,000 -$11,000 to earn your certificate. Some people take longer and ends up costing more, while others speed through the curriculum because they're fast learners for a cheaper rate. I guess now's the time to really catch on fast, right? Next week I plan to search more schools to compare pricing, reviews, and timelines for completing a program.
